The Dreaded Day

Even to someone who lives in a town full of werewolves, ghosts, vampires, zombies, and other frightening creatures, turning 30 can seem like a nightmare!

SuperFogeys Update!

So, by know I’m sure you’ve heard the earth shattering news! I am the new regular artist on Brock Heasley’s SuperFogeys. Brock is still writing it, so you can expect the same top notch storytelling, I’ll just be along for the ride to help tell the tale. SuperFogeys will update on Mondays and Wednesdays with new full color strips by Brock and I, then on Fridays there will be all new installments of SuperFogeys: Origins featuring a who’s who of webcomic all stars.

Now what does this all mean to Spooky Doofus? Can I possibly keep up with creating the art for two strips, twice a week? Sadly, no. When I’m not drawing these comics, I’m working a full time job and raising two young daughters with my wife. I’ve been working in secret on both strips for well over a month now. If I really pushed it, I could probably keep up with both at the schedule we’re at now. Eventually, though, the quality of my work would suffer.

Today marks Spooky Doofus # 148. That’s very close to 150 strips of spooky, kooky comedy, a decent body of work, if I do say so myself. So right now, the plan is to put SD on hiatus after #151, which would be on March 31, 2011. I still have stories in mind for the residents of Renfield Square, so I do plan to come back and tell those tales, I just can’t say when right now. I definitely need to give myself a little break and regroup creatively so that when I do come back to the Square, it will be better than ever. So, until further notice, don’t consider this the end of the comic, rather just the end of the first season.

Make sure you come back Thursday to find out how Landon’s big birthday turns out! And then next Tuesday and Thursday for more birthday surprises!

Oh man, in a little over two years from now I’ll be getting cards in the mail like that … :(

Perfectly understandable about the future of SD, Marc! I’ll certainly be here to read those future stories you want to tell!

Congratulation on the new gig, Marc! Though I’ll miss the gang here at Spooky Doofus, I know you’re probably diggin’ the new opportunity with Brock.

This is now my thirtieth year. I cant help but notice the streaks in my beard that I once thought to be blonde seem to be loosing that yellow pigment an turning white.

This strip was all too providential.

Hiatus!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Why do my favorite strips go on hiatus!?!

Congrads once again. Now I’ll have to read Super Fogies to see when SD is coming back.

Just wait until you hit 40, Landon. (Insert Manic Laughter Here).
Will definitely miss SD but am also a big fan of SF, ( don’t think of it as vacationing a strip, think of it as moving up a letter in the alphabet) so will still get to enjoy your artwork and look forward to your future endeavors with Brock.
Good Luck and all the best.
