There you have it, folks, 151 comics. As of today, Spooky Doofus is officially on hiatus. It’s time for me to take a break. My days have been jam packed with a two young daughters, a full time job, Spooky Doofus twice a week, SuperFogeys twice a week, and three different versions of Angry Birds on my phone. Something has to give! I need to take a break to regroup creatively in order to do justice to Spooky Doofus. The last thing I want is to pass off some poorly drawn rush job onto you fine folks.

I am sincerely grateful for all of you who have been loyally following Spooky Doofus for the past 151 strips. Be sure to keep following my work on SuperFogeys every Monday and Wednesday, and follow me on Twitter for my occasional lunch time sketches and updates on when you can expect to see Spooky Doofus “season 2″. Also, in the near future, I’ll be putting together a sketch blog where I’ll be posting all kinds of sketches and drawings. Of course, this site will still be around should you want to revisit Renfield Square. And you never know when I’ll post a blog entry about something important.

In case you missed it, I will be putting Spooky Doofus on hiatus after the next strip. With my new gig as regular artist on the SuperFogeys, plus a busy day job, and two very young daughters at home, my plate is very full right now. Now, I wouldn’t call this “the end” of Spooky Doofus. I do have more stories to tell. I just need to lighten my load for a little while and regroup creatively to do proper justice to the gentle townsfolk of Renfield Square. I’ll keep you all posted when plans are in place for a return visit to the Square. For now, I will see you all here Thursday, and every Monday and Wednesday on the SuperFogeys.

The Webcomic Alliance members recently exhibited at Chicago’s C2E2 Comic Convention, and collected these awesome sketches from many renowned artists and creators in the comic industry. In efforts to promote the Comics For Japan project (please visit the website for more details), I am posting this collaborative piece for auction, in which 100% of the proceeds will go to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. The Comics For Japan project has inspired me to use the talents and connections I have, to hopefully be able to donate more than what I could afford on my own.I will carefully ship you the sketch FOR FREE (S&H charges are on me), and your money goes towards helping victims in Japan. There’s not a lot of pretty that goes on with these Spooky Sketch Sunday posts. This one is a rare instance. Instead of drawing a hideous, evil monster, I decided to draw the pretty young thing that slays  the hideous evil monsters, Buffy Summers! I’m pretty sure that if you’re into reading this webcomic about a werewolf, and a ghost living in a mysterious supernatural town, you’re probably the type of geek that doesn’t need a Buffy history lesson. It’s just one of many wonderful gifts bestowed upon us by the mighty Joss Whedon.

I’m a few years north of 30 myself and I actually didn’t find that milestone all that bad. In fact, my life has improved by leaps and bounds since I turned thirty. You just need a little perspective and suddenly you realize 30 isn’t as big as it feels.

Did you catch my first regular SuperFogeys strip yesterday? The story continues as Swifty is given an unthinkable ultimatum by his future self.

Even to someone who lives in a town full of werewolves, ghosts, vampires, zombies, and other frightening creatures, turning 30 can seem like a nightmare!

SuperFogeys Update!

So, by know I’m sure you’ve heard the earth shattering news! I am the new regular artist on Brock Heasley’s SuperFogeys. Brock is still writing it, so you can expect the same top notch storytelling, I’ll just be along for the ride to help tell the tale. SuperFogeys will update on Mondays and Wednesdays with new full color strips by Brock and I, then on Fridays there will be all new installments of SuperFogeys: Origins featuring a who’s who of webcomic all stars.

Now what does this all mean to Spooky Doofus? Can I possibly keep up with creating the art for two strips, twice a week? Sadly, no. When I’m not drawing these comics, I’m working a full time job and raising two young daughters with my wife. I’ve been working in secret on both strips for well over a month now. If I really pushed it, I could probably keep up with both at the schedule we’re at now. Eventually, though, the quality of my work would suffer.

Today marks Spooky Doofus # 148. That’s very close to 150 strips of spooky, kooky comedy, a decent body of work, if I do say so myself. So right now, the plan is to put SD on hiatus after #151, which would be on March 31, 2011. I still have stories in mind for the residents of Renfield Square, so I do plan to come back and tell those tales, I just can’t say when right now. I definitely need to give myself a little break and regroup creatively so that when I do come back to the Square, it will be better than ever. So, until further notice, don’t consider this the end of the comic, rather just the end of the first season.

In case you missed the news, this past Thursday it was announced that I would be taking over as the new regular artist on the webcomic, SuperFogeys. Series creator Brock Heasley will be remaining on as writer and all around captain of the Fogeys ship, but he’s asked me to step up to the drawing board. Together we will be ushering in a new era in SuperFogeys history!

In honor of this new partnership, I decided SuperFogeys vilain, The Thrice Evil would be perfect for this week’s Spooky Sketch Sunday installment! I’ve always admired Brock’s art and character design. Thrice is just such a cool looking character and tons of fun to draw.

BIG NEWS!

I’ve been hinting at a big super secret project I’ve been working on for a little while now. Well, as of today, the cat is out of the bag! What is this big news, you ask? I suggest you check out Brock Heasley’s blog on today’s 300th SuperFogeys comic for all the details! I’ll write a blog post about my side of the story a little later, but for now, I’ll let Brock break the news.
