The other day I got an email from Denver Brubaker, creator of the uber-cool comic, Tales of a Checkered Man. He had just discovered Spooky Doofus after reading my recent guest strip for Legend of Bill. After plowing through the archives in record time, he sketched out this fantastic drawing of Ed and sent it off to me via the power of the internets!

I’ve got to say, if you have never checked out Tales of a Checkered Man, you need to give it a look see! It’s kind of like if Will Eisner’s the Spirit and Mad Magazine were combined in some bizzarre transporter accident. Good stuff, totally worth your time.

You know nothing makes me smile quite like seeing other cartoonists draw my characters. This wonderful depiction of our two spooky leads comes from M@ McCray, creative force behind the comic ZooDotCom. I first saw this piece as a photo posted on Twitter a little while back and was very impressed by it. I love the line work and the way M@’s  style blends perfectly with the character designs. Check out this terrific piece of quality sketching from one of the true gentlemen of webcomics, Krishna Sadasivam of PC Weenies fame. This was originally posted by Krishna via Twitter a few days ago. He had asked his Twitter followers for suggestions of other webcomic characters he should draw. I half jokingly suggested he draw Landon, and next thing I know, there’s this great sketch of  our werewolf hero!

I liked Krishna’s sketch so much, that I thought, “Hey, why not try inking over it myself.” I’ve never inked someone else’s work before, so I figured it would make a nice exercise for me. So, below is my inks over Krishna’s sketch. I only hope I’ve done justice to the original sketch.

This week, Spooky Doofus is back to it’s regular Tuesday Thursday schedule, but that doesn’t mean I can’t squeeze in one more piece of guest art. This one comes from Brad Joyce. Brad has been a loyal supporter of my silly drawings for years now and for that alone he’s earned my never ending gratitude. Now comes this wonderful piece that just makes me smile! The gag in this piece is a nod to my daughters, Zoe and Penny. Zoe is often lovingly nick named “Zoe Monster” mostly because she shares a name with Elmo’s friend on Sesame Street, while Penelope I’ve referred to as a “hungry little monkey” on more than one occasion due to her hollow legs. (BTW, 50 points to anyone who can guess what the “Were-Human” poster is a reference to.)

Flip and Barrel are a couple of brothers doing what brothers do best, get into crazy trouble! Check them out and be sure to click the mighty “Like” button!
