At long last, the air conditioning is fixed! And just in time, too. I don’t think Landon could take the heat wave and Summer’s hotness at the same time. when we last saw Summer, she was leaving on a date with Esteban Chupacabra. Surely she didn’t come back to the store just to point at Ed, so why is she here? What does she want? Tune in Thursday to find out.

Looks like the AC system had more problems than just a duck in the thermostat! Good thing Abe is there to fix things. Yeah, I named the HVAC repair Yeti “Abe”.

At last! One of life’s biggest mysteries is solved! Now, just be careful where you put your hands tonight when you go to bed. The Lepre-Fonz doesn’t like people touching his leather jacket!

BTW, you may have noticed that something is a little different around here. I have given the site a fresh coat of paint with a new header and background image. I hope you like it.

Finally, a way for Landon to deal with the heat. There’s nothing like the underside of a pillow on a hot summer day.

I bet you’re all wondering why is it that the underside of a pillow is so cool. Well, tune in Thursday for the surprising answer!

Clearly the heat is getting to Landon. How much more can this poor werewolf take? Will Landon ever find some small relief from the oppressive heat? Will the heat wave ever end? This week, Spooky Doofus is back to it’s regular Tuesday Thursday schedule, but that doesn’t mean I can’t squeeze in one more piece of guest art. This one comes from Brad Joyce. Brad has been a loyal supporter of my silly drawings for years now and for that alone he’s earned my never ending gratitude. Now comes this wonderful piece that just makes me smile! The gag in this piece is a nod to my daughters, Zoe and Penny. Zoe is often lovingly nick named “Zoe Monster” mostly because she shares a name with Elmo’s friend on Sesame Street, while Penelope I’ve referred to as a “hungry little monkey” on more than one occasion due to her hollow legs. (BTW, 50 points to anyone who can guess what the “Were-Human” poster is a reference to.)

If you’re on Facebook, check out Flip & Barrel, the charming little comic Brad works on (with another guy named Brad… it’s all very confusing). Flip and Barrel are a couple of brothers doing what brothers do best, get into crazy trouble! Check them out and be sure to click the mighty “Like” button!

New to the Doofus:

This past Sunday, I started a new feature called Spooky Sketch Sunday. Every Sunday I plan to post a new piece of sketch art of the spooky persuasion. Tune in every Sunday for a new look behind the scenes at my drawing style.

This week also marks the end of my  partial “paternity leave” as regular Spooky Doofus strips return to Thursdays! I would like to thank everyone who contributed their time and art to making my work load a little lighter while we welcomed our new baby. Dawn Griffin, Benj Christensen, Irma Eriksson, Lucas Turnbloom, and Roland Perez, I could not have kept this strip running this past month without your help. Thank you.

I also need to thank Brad Joyce, one of my longest running fans and loyal supporters. Brad also contributed a guest art piece which I will be running tomorrow as a special return of Fan Art Wednesday. I was originally going to run it as a Thursday guest strip, but in all honesty, I am seriously itching to get back to my regular schedule. I’ve had so many great ideas in these past few weeks, and drawn up some really ridiculous strips that I can’t wait to show them to you! So check in tomorrow to see Brad’s piece, then come back on Thursday for another “hot” installment of Spooky Doofus. Oh, and don’t forget about Spooky Sketch Sundays!

Sunday 8/15/10 I’ll be starting up a new (hopefully) regular feature called Spooky Sketch Sunday, where I’ll be posting a Spooky Sketch on.. well.. Sunday. Then come back on Tuesday 8/17/10 and watch Landon try to find some relief from the heat in an all new regular Spooky Doofus!

Today’s historic Spooky Guest Strip comes from my cartooning brother-from-another-mother, Lucas Turnbloom of Imagine This! Why do I call this “historic”, you ask? This marks the first time Dr. Vincent, founder of our favorite Scare Emporium, himself has been rendered visually. Truth be told, I never really gave much thought to Dr. Vincent as a character, I just thought it would be a cool name for the store. Having seen Lucas’ wonderful gag, though, my imagination has been shot out of a cannon thinking of all sorts of wacky, freaky things Dr. Vincent could be getting into. So, keep reading, Spooky Fans, Dr. Vincent will be making a proper appearance in the town of Renfield Square!

Now, it would be bad form on my part to not call your attention to the fact that Lucas has a brand new Imagine This collection available now right HERE! I ordered mine. What are you waiting for? You might even find a little guest strip by yours truly inside!
