Huge thanks to Roland for this great strip and for his loyalty and support!

Coming up, I’ll be experimenting with a new feature here at the Doofus. Spooky Sketch Sunday will bring a page out of my sketchbook depicting various supernatural creatures and characters. This will offer an expanded peek into the world of Renfield Square.

On Tuesday I’ll be back again with a new Spooky strip in which Ed helps Landon find some relief from the heat wave.

Why do I call this “historic”, you ask? This marks the first time Dr. Vincent, founder of our favorite Scare Emporium, himself has been rendered visually. Truth be told, I never really gave much thought to Dr. Vincent as a character, I just thought it would be a cool name for the store. Having seen Lucas’ wonderful gag, though, my imagination has been shot out of a cannon thinking of all sorts of wacky, freaky things Dr. Vincent could be getting into. So, keep reading, Spooky Fans, Dr. Vincent will be making a proper appearance in the town of Renfield Square!

Now, it would be bad form on my part to not call your attention to the fact that Lucas has a brand new Imagine This collection available now right HERE! I ordered mine. What are you waiting for? You might even find a little guest strip by yours truly inside!

That Imy book, by the way, is scheduled to debut at the New York Comic Con this October! If you’re headed to NYCC, make sure you track her down an pick up a copy. If you can’t make it to NYCC, don’t fret, Irma will be selling the book through her website in November. Inside the book you’ll also find a special pin up by your truly!

Baby Update

We’ve settled into a nice groove of constant feedings, naps, and diaper changes. Sleep is something that comes in small doses now, but since I do a webcomic, I’m used to late nights and early mornings. Baby Penny seems to be happy with how things are working out so far, though. Here’s proof:

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I’ll be back here on Tuesday with a “hot” new Spooky Doofus! See you then.

Way back in 2007, when I was working on my first venture into the wonderful world of web based comics, Benj was one of the first creators I got to know online. His hysterical comic I Am Geek has gone through several evolutionary stages since those days, yet the core geek culture based humor has remained strong and fresh. If you’re a fan of sci-fi, comic books, video games, and RPGs, I Am Geek is the perfect comic for you. I highly recommend taking a day or two and digging though the archives. Thank you, Benj for lending a helping hand!

Another baby announcement!

As if welcoming a second daughter last week wasn’t enough for my family, I now have the honor of being a new uncle! A couple of days ago, my sister and her husband brought their son into the world! So I just want to throw out a special “Hello” to my nephew Cole Thomas Mayotte. Drawing lessons with Uncle Marc begin as soon as you can grasp a pencil.

Be sure to come back on Tuesday for another All New Original Spooky Doofus!

A while back, good friend and fellow cartoonist, Lucas Turnbloom asked for my assistance in a big project of his. Aside from his wonderfully wacky comic Imagine THIS, he has an all new, all ages graphic novel in the works. This graphic novel was in need of some color for it’s cover, and Lucas enlisted my mighty Photoshop skills to add some C, M, & Y to his K (sorry, lame printing joke). Anyway, here’s a small peek at Lucas’ dramatic cover with my colorful embellishments. For a little better look at the cover and announcements on Lucas’ other projects check out THIS blog entry. Of course, as soon as I know more about when the book is available, I will let you all know.

There I was sketching away on my lunch break at the day job, when this image of a goofy barbarian started to appear. The more I sketched, the more familiar the character became. Next thing I know I’m staring at Bill and Frank from David Reddick’s awesomely entertaining comic, Legend of Bill! Bill and Frank turned out to be so much fun to draw that I just had to finish the sketch with inks and color. Below I’ve posted a shot of the original lunch break sketch.

If you haven’t heard by now my good buddy, Brock Heasley of SuperFogeys fame, has a comic currently in competition at Zuda called MONSTERPLEX. Brock recently put out an open call for Monsterplex fan art over at the Official Monsterplex Blog, so I put my pencil into action and whipped up this little pin up of Priscilla. Click on the image to head over to the Monsterplex Blog and see the whole finished image.

For those of you that like the behind the scenes type stuff, I have posted a shot of the pencils for this pin up. Enjoy!

As I type this, there is a little less than a week left in the competition and Monsterplex could use every vote it can get. So head over to Zuda and vote, favorite, and comment away.

I don’t quite remember what inspired me to draw Clovis the teddy bear as everyone’s favorite nutty Korean dictator, but it seems natural. I think it stems from my philosophy that teddy bears in big glasses = funny 100% of the time! This little drawing even inspired “Imagine THIS” creator Lucas Turnbloom to do a series of Clovis Haloween costumes in his strip.

Geek is currently on an extended hiatus, but can still be found starting HERE. I became a big fan of Benj’s geek-centric humor way back when I started Boxcar Astronaut in 2007. Benj was one of the first webcomic creators I got to know online and we’ve been internet friends ever since. If you’re of the geeky persuasion, head over to Benj’s site BJCcreations.com and read up on I Am GEEK and some of the great Jenny Everywhere stuff he’s done.
